What is Sextortion?

A scam where someone threatens to share intimate images unless paid. Victims should not pay, should save evidence, and should seek help.

Sextortion increasingly targets teenagers: a stranger poses as a peer, coaxes a private image, then demands money. Paying makes demands escalate. The right response: stop responding, do not pay, save the evidence, report to the platform and a child-protection hotline, and — for young people — tell a trusted adult. It is never the victim's fault, and specialist services can often get images blocked from spreading.
