What is Smishing?
Phishing carried out by SMS text message rather than email.
Typical smishing texts pose as delivery companies ('your parcel is held, pay a small fee'), banks ('suspicious payment blocked — verify now'), or family ('Mum, I lost my phone'). The small screen and casual medium make people less careful. The same rules apply: don't tap links in unexpected texts, and verify through official apps or numbers. Many countries let you forward scam texts to a reporting number such as 7726.
