What is Security certificate (SSL/TLS)?

The credential behind the browser padlock that enables an encrypted connection to a website.

If your browser shows a full-page certificate warning, stop — something is intercepting or impersonating the site. Note the padlock's limit: it proves the connection is private, not that the site is honest, so scam sites can have padlocks too.
